Michael Dickman of Fussell Wright Solicitors believes in ‘giving something back to the community’ and unlike most Solicitors, does do exactly that!
Michael has over 30 years’ experience of preparing and writing Wills and is also a Tax Expert.
Fussell Wright is a small Solicitors and yet often surpass the amount donated by much larger firms with many more teams of people working in that department.
Throughout the year, Fussell Wright Solicitors join in schemes to help people write a Will in the hope that they will leave something in their Will to a charity. Charites, hospitals and local hospices alike all offer a few weeks throughout the year where they offer the services of a participating Solicitor, including:
- Amnesty International Make a Will Fortnight
- St Peter’s Hospice Make a Will Fortnight
- Will Aid – during the month of November where people as asked to donate £95 for a single Will or £150 for a mirror Will
Interestingly, if you leave 10% of your estate to a charity in your Will, you will only pay 36% tax on death as opposed to 40% which is a win/win situation.
Charities that are helped and contributed to by Fussell Wright Solicitors and their clients include:
- Age UK
- Amnesty International
- Avon Riding Centre for the Disabled
- British Red Cross
- Christian Aid
- Great Western Air Ambulance Charity
- Save the Children
- St Peter’s Hospice
- World Wildlife Protection (WWP)
Will Aid takes place every November and Fussell Wright participate in this scheme every year and see as many people as they can. In fact, we would like to think that Bristol has a lower amount of intestacies than any other part of the country due to the amount of people who make Wills with this scheme.
People are always keen to partake in Will Aid as they are giving money to charities prior to Christmas and have the chance to sit with a Solicitor with 30 years’ experience and have professionally drawn up Will prepared and kept, free of charge.
Fussell Wright are based in Bristol yet they have people come to make Wills from as far afield as Swindon, Chippenham, Trowbridge, Bath and Gloucestershire as no other Solicitors partake in that radius. It is always advised to book as places go extremely fast!
The monies for Will Aid are paid directly to the charity and Fussell Wright request people donate the suggested fees of £95 or £150 towards the charity but hasten to add that if you are unable to afford this to let us know.
This year Fussell Wright have raised a further £12,167 writing more than 125 Wills in the month of November, bringing our total running total to £113,000.
Macmillan Coffee Mornings in September
The staff of Fussell Wright often take time out of their busy schedules to prepare cakes, biscuits and jams to sell on behalf of this charity. Our clients have supported us over the years in purchasing cakes whilst visiting our offices and all monies raised have been most appreciated.
